Hello Gildor, umodel seems to have problem with retail version

Some files are encrypted, some - not. Unencrypted files can be read by umodel without problems, encrypted will cause umodel to crash with "Wrong package tag" error. Try different way to extract packages from .iso image.

GOW3 should be supported now because of updated UDK support.
(but do not expect from umodel to open bad files)

Does it really support the retail game wich released on the 20 of september?

Because when i export the .xxx files i still get:

*ERROR WRONG TAG IN PACKAGE:00000000
etc....

So whats up with that? its 120% legit copy of gears of war installed on xbox and moved files to windows system.

First be careful because I got a virus/trojan not long after using the program and can't say if the program was the cause :-\ . Download god2iso and use it to convert the data files to iso.

i just did this and im extracting the iso so i will tell you guys if it worked but i installed it on a usb drive then extracted the data files to my computer and then used god2iso to convert to iso and then i could read it with wx360 and thats were im at now okay and now i get a huge problem all i get is this
Found 2514 game files (10 skipped) and thats all it says and i cant figure out why?

I can't be sure because I had a lot of  ??? ??? moments myself and tried a few way before it worked, but I think I cancelled the program after it had built a temp iso and used that (after changing file ex to .iso). The iso might open with 7zip but if not then try schtrom 360 xtract S360x.

In WinXp, after purchasing valid copy of GOW3 for x360:
1. Use GOD2ISO v1.04, "Fix "CreateIsoGood" broken header" selected.
2. Use WX360 1.6 to extract files from ISO.
Works fine.  ;D

Something about the uv, you mention, the error was, that the mesh would be everywhere, ruin up. Like vertex would be scramble up.

I can easily fix animations in umodel's viewer. But it is not possible to fix them in context of psa file format - it is not suitable for such things.

All of my textures are non higher then 15 kb and some characters cant even be extracted HELP!!

Almost all of the characters work for me, execpt the DLC characters. And I only have the proper textures of summer marcus fenix

Look at the log! There is a message "CharTextures.tfc is missing". That's your problem.

Umodel should see complete game distribution (Cooked* directory). Situation on screenshot looks like you were copied a few files into the separate directory and started umodel there (it's pity that this method is propagated by most third-party tutorials made by people who don't know how to use umodel).

There was similar problem with SkeletalMesh, I've fixed it some time ago.
I've found the same problem yesterday by myself in recent UDK packages. Hope I could fix that in next weekend.

This mesh has 22k triangles, this is 66k indices (more than 64k). I've added support for large triangle counts. Please try the new umodel version.

Ah yes, just tried the oct21 one, and it works great. Thanks once again.

So far, none of them show the mesh error.

That is going to save me a lot of time, since all Gears of war 3 StaticMeshes have 2 UV sets.
Previously I had to spend hours in 3dsMax to create 2nd UV channel just to make a nice looking shadows in UnrealEditor.... BUT NOT ANYMORE !!! hehehe....

In the case shown on the screenshot, material is mapped, otherwise you'll see the 4-color default texture instead of the black one. The problem is that umodel was not able to detect correct diffuse/normal/specular etc maps for this material, and material representation is absolutely incorrect.

It is a shame that displaying textures on StaticMeshes doesnt work... Now I have to browse trough a bunch of textures to find the right one...  ???

1. Find the corresponding material (you can check the material name with pressing <M> key in the mesh viewer)
2. Open this material in umodel's viewer
3. Press <M> key, it should display the list of used textures - probably this will help you

I'm trying to export character models from Raams Shadow dlc I managed to export Valera and Minh, but I can't export Tai and Barrick I get error in error log:

UE3 has much more complicated data structures for DLCs, probably that's a reason of error.

^ the above is a proper model I have the same one, but the emissive texture is messed up or maybe just mapped incorrectly, as for tatoos that is a separate texture, look for T_COG_ClaytonCarmine_Details_D

There is nothing wrong with the emissive maps, they don't work 'as is' in umodels viewer because umodel can't support all unreal material tricks. If you press m when viewing the Marcus_summer model in umodel text pops up that gives you a basic starting point to rebuild the materials in ut3/udk.

I have been noodling about with the gears editor and think I know how its done the Epic way, no texture mask and a material instance copy to swap out emissive maps and change the color/tint.

Cool, glad there's a way to do emissives correctly!

And yeah, does anyone know how to put the tatoo texture on clay correctly lol.  Epic did the same thing with lambent berserker too.

cr4zyw3ld3r, Double click the emissive texture in the content browser (not material editor) to bring up its properties to change Wrap to clamp.
 
JUGGERNUT, I'm sure Epic used a second uv channel, the uv layout for the Armour and tatoo textures would need a different Uv layout from Carmines mirrored uv's.

It wasn't a question, I just wanted to thank you.
I thought that pskx was only for staticmesh. I didn't realise that skeletalmesh could be exported as pskx with the -pskx switch. I think I will check the read me txt next time :-[

Not sure which editor you are using but Carmines material can't be done in the gears editor, you need two uvsets and the gears editor only imports one uvset per skeletalmesh psk/dae :(.  UDK supports fbx so maybe plug a texture coordinate in to carmines detail texture (change the coordinates to 1 to use the 2nd uvchannel) and lerp it with carmines diffuse texture?

Thanks for posting the great screen shots.

When I exported the GOW3 files using umodel, and looked at the Sam Byrne model, I noticed a couple of things and I was wondering if you did too.

The model is exported as a pskx file, presumably because of multiple UVs.  Did you find that as well?  The Anya Summer model is also pskx, while other models are psk.

I imported Sam into 3ds Max 2011, using Gildor's importer, and it mentioned that it couldn't find the eye material (found all the others), although there is an eye in the diffuse texture.  As a result, the model that I exported as fbx and imported into UDK has no eye material.  Was that the case for you too?

I found an eye texture in another folder and created my own material, but I find that the iris looks too big.  How did you do it?

does anyone know how to or where I can go to ask to etract dlc content from xbox 360 Gears of War 3, I had my hard drive hooked up to my pc via sata and I used xploerer 360 but I could not see anything etractable by umodel  ???    if anyone could point me in the right direction please?!

For those still having issues with emissive textures in UDK, the following images may help. They are based on Dreadfred's work but don't use a mask. As Dreadfred has already pointed out, the crop scale and crop offset can be obtained using the uModel viewer.  There is a wealth of information that Gildor provides via the viewer.

WOW alright. I am trying to figure out how to get sound clips from my retail xbox360 Gears '3 Disc and now I've seen these animations exist -cool.

But getting back to the audio I see this is an old thread and would like to ask "What is the current easiest to use Prog to obtain an ISO of my disc" Still the same as those above? I ask because the talk of 'headers' etc I know nothing about and it sounds a little complicated and I'd prefer to put my time into something that won't take up a lot of it trying to figure things like that out.

Hello Redshirt, Gildor said on another thread you need the game as an ISO - not really as an installation as it says in the How To guide. There are things mentioned in this thread that I don't fully understand and am wary of DL some infected prog by mistake that give an idea of what you need program wise. Did you find any Noob guides? I found some videos on this site but they were really for people who were advanced users or had a basic understanding of things.

Meanwhile it would be good, seeing so many people trying to get the same outcome, that those who have extracted animations, sounds etc could UL them so others can have them without trying to find out what UV, effuse and other things are. Grovel grovel pleeease. Sam is my favourite but I'd like some other game sounds. I found more dialogue from here recently if I torque bow her  :)

Hello, this is how I do it.
1= Install game to your xbox's harddrive
2= move or copy game to a usb from xbox harddrive
3= use USBXTAFGUI_v44 to extact the game data files from usb to your pc
4= convert the data files to an Iso using God2Iso
5= Extract the game .xxx files from Iso using exiso (drag and drop the iso onto exiso)
6= Use gildors awsome viewer to view/extract animations, models and textures
or if you own the game, pirate the ISO and do number 5 ;D

the files you describe as .xxx are they actually titled .xxx or are the x's wildcards or something? Its primarily the audio I want to get at. May go for the more complicated stuff depending on how that goes.

Apparently, unreleased PS3 build of Gears 3 works fine with the latest umodel without specific override settings, but you need to set package compression to zlib manually and choose PS3 in platform settings.
