Title: Batman Arkham City

Here's some files that I could gather so far, game is downloaded 10% only so no .exe yet, and my download speed ain't awesome at all.

Some .upk files, hope they help.

If someone already got the game, post some other files.

Here's the .exe and engine.upk, there's no engine.dll or so :/

Also this is the error while trying to view/extract upk's

Where did you get files
Code:
Court_B1_px.upk
CW_A1_CH123456a_Static.upk
Museum_C1_px.upk
Nora_B1.upk
Riddler_08_Static.upk
These packages are either encrypted (incorrectly extracted?) or not unreal packages at all.

Engine.upk is a correct package.
The game executable looks correct.

Please provide all u-files (probably these files has extension .upk now, I need files core.upk and bmgame.upk)

I've checked the executable in detail. Unfortunately it is obfuscated with SecuROM or similar protection, so I cannot reverse critical parts of code. Will wait for cracked exe.

Forgot that files need to decrypted first, I uploaded them while the game was downloading. Still here are the files core.upk and bmgame.upk

Hi Gildor,
here are some upk files from original pc game that may help you.

http://www.mediafire.com/?q2ceqfszh2ikg80

I used your latest decompress with this files but without result.
Only with fonts_en.upk it works great and this decompressed file work also in the game.
So can you look at these files and try to create new updated decompressor please?

I've implemented package support for this game. It is not possible to research deeper to support at least textures, so no resources are supported yet. But for people who want to perform localization of this game, I've updated decompressor and extractor tools.

Thanx Gildor,
your work is awesome.
So I used your new updated tools (decompress and extract) and both work fine.
Decompressed upk files work in game, too.
Now we can translate game to our mother language  :)

Thank you very much once again

I highly doubt they'll "clean" the exe even in a scene release, SecuROM can be bypassed by some .dll, and GFWL works with Offline profiles...

Still hope I'm wrong >_> Since I want so bad support for this game :(

Hmm, I don't think that site has anything to do with the group, that crack isn't released by skidrow (the group).
Also I don't think you should post link to piracy sites, posting sample files is one thing but the full game is...

Anybody can dump an exe? Some games on this forum were reversed by providing dumped non-runnable game executable. I don't need to start the game, I just need to get decrypted file which can be disassembled.

I'm uploading a dump right now, I'll post the link later.

Current state of the Batman2 support: package format is supported (so extractor and decompressor does works) but resources are not supported because of impossibility to reverse some code parts (resource formats were changed in some unexpected way).

Also, just did a quick read through the thread, but i assume you still don't have the .exe file? If that is the case, here, have this:

The game executable could be "cracked", it could work, but it still could be useless for me. On the other side, executable could be non-runnable, but suitable for reversing.

I need help about .upk files. I want to edit .upk files of Batman: Arkham City. But, if I edit it with hex editor, there will be limititation with size. "Unreal coding" board has enough information to implement upk loading. A few people were successfully implemented their own tools using it. If you'll make a tool which will load at least UT3 package - I'll tell you which changes you should make to support Batman2 package format.

I found that most probably all dialogues in "RDialogueEvent". I could extract all them with exporter. I want to do just that adding extra some bytes, and making game worked with this extra bytes.
I need something similar to that for decompressed upk file for batman ac.

What kind of "instructions" do you need? First of all, you should write an application which will load anything UE3-ish (UT3 or Batman1 are preferred).

I need something similar to that for new upk file of batman.
Code:
Hi.
You have some errors here. Header for UE3 has the following format:

    int32 Tag (0x9E2A83C1)
int32 FileVersion - lower 16 bits is PackageVersion, upper 16 bits is LicenseeVersion
    int32 HeadersSize
string PackageGroup - real name is unknown, this field usually contains "None"
    int32 PackageFlags
    int32 NameCount
    int32 NameOffser
    int32 ExportCount
    int32 ExportOffser
    int32 ImportCount
    int32 ImportOffser
    int32 DependsOffset - when PackageVersion >= 415
    int32 x 4 Guid
    int32 Generations.Count
    ... generations ...
    int32 EngineVersion
    int32 CookerVersion
    int32 CompressionFlags
... compressed chunks (look another thread for info)
    ... some other fields ...

Each generation is

    int32 ExportCount
    int32 NameCount
    int32 NetObjectCount

May I ask you why? Is it because of SecureRom or is it the version of the UE3 itself?

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Gildor on January 10, 2012, 09:30
That's because of some nice UE3 optimizations made by Rocksteady's programmers. These optimizations are made object data smaller and much faster to load, but it is extremely hard to get it working in umodel.

They have changed property serialization principles. Replaced "PropertyName->PropertyValue" with "PropertyOffset->PropertyValue" information. Umodel knows all necessary property names, but it cannot know offsets of them in particular games.

Oh sh*t. Offset values? That's impossible to know without cheking all possible values or without a offset values table to check. Now I understand why Umodel will NEVER support this game. That's sad. I was hoping to be able to play with catwoman and harley models. Not gonna happen. :(

It was very complex and different, but it was possible.

Also please note that I've made only a few tests with packages which were sent to me in this thread. Probably somewhere it will crash, may be tfc will not work. Feel free to post your test results here, some screenshots would be handsome.

Been around here for a while, but this was above and beyond.  Had to register to express my thanks for this.  I'm running a few batch scripts right now on all of the cooked assets.  I'll try to post back here with any crashes.

Is animation support impossible due to the offsets, or just not supported right now?

Animation is completely different, not using Unreal's animation system at all. And it is not possible to completely reverse it with partially encrypted executable.

Ok, sorry to hear that and thanks for the quick clarification.  I am getting .psa files out of the extraction process, along with .config files, but it looks like they are all only 10-20kb in size.

I just got done running through all of the upks and everything other than animations worked fine  :)

The only thing to be aware of is that there are a grand total of 24 .tfc files, including the DLC characters.  They separated the normals into their own .tfc packages, that's why there are so many.

Does DLC packaged extracted correctly?

I'm somewhat new at using the tools... when I try to use an exported psk's skeletal mesh the upper body works fine but the legs seem a bit strange, ex... thigh bone doesn't seem to have bone weight? Am I doing something wrong with exporting?

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Jodan on January 21, 2012, 06:31
It seems the viewer is not finding the location of the eyes and eyelash textures (this is a problem with every model I have tested; catwoman animated (this one also has a second mesh layered on it for the animation line around the character which seems to be missing the texture as well), halloween, wayne, harley, bman costumes, robin)... i did notice the tool posted a error about these textures specifically.
------------------------------
Note: these files with the missing textures seem to occur when the viewer loads Material3; I get the error "WARNING: BoolProperty "UMaterial3::RANDOM TEXTURE FILE HERE" was not found
(this is usually about five to seven files missing)
------------------------------
I have been testing the tool and it seems to work with every file (at least those I have tested) but with some transparency issues on a few of the models (for example hair, freeze's helmet).  Just love how we can see how this stuff works... really appreciate how much work gildor puts into this stuff...

Lastly, I just read the comment on the weighting I will check that when I can, to see if it is a issue or if you are doing something wrong.

Did you copied upk files to some directory or opened umodel directly from the game directory?

About "wrong UV" ... Batman's head has 3 UV sets, did you tried all?

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Jodan on January 21, 2012, 18:19
Hello Gildor, thanks for you help and to answer your questions, [1] I am reading the files directly from the game directory; please note the following...

C:\Temp\newver>umodel -path="C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\batman2" -view filenamehere.upk
---------
[2] also just tried switching the uv sets after reading what you wrote, and while it changed the way the texture on batman all three times, the eyes in fact never changed from the colored checker board pattern [tried this also with play version of catwoman, she also has 3 uv sets and just like with batman, the other 2 uv sets where blocky (and some appeared to not be aligned correctly to the mesh) and again the eyes had no change when uv was switched; the colored checker box remained unchanged].

I get the a few repeated errors with these wordings [WARNING: BoolProperty "UMaterial3::RANDOM TEXTURE FILE HERE" was not found] , [WARNING: StructProperty "UMaterial3::RANDOM TEXTURE FILE HERE" was not found] and ends with [WARNING: package Character_Shared was not found]
---------
also noted that a folder(sometimes both folders) titled "MaterialInstanceConstant" and "Material3" appear after extraction which include 1kb files seeming to be a shortcut point reference for files mentioned in the WARNING message.

I hope this helps you figure out if I am doing something wrong or if it is a legit issue...

"Checkerboard texture" is not an UV error. This error appear when umodel is unable to detect correct texture to display. You should export the model into Max and find/map texture manually.

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Jodan on January 22, 2012, 07:50
Hello Gildor, I think you misunderstood what i was trying to say,

I know the eye checker box thing is not a uv error and that the checker box only occurs when a texture is missing on the mesh.
For what ever reason, the viewer is unable to locate the eye material (the command prompt states "was not found").

I too had initially thought that extracting the model and then then adding the eye texture back manually (as you had suggested in your last post) would solve my problem however, the point is mute as the texture for the eye is not extracted... any ideas about this?

Appreciate the help.

No ideas. You could try to find the texture for different Batman mesh.

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Gildor on January 22, 2012, 12:41
I have an idea. It looks like eye material is procedural - it has some blood vessels but no pupil, but it has some parameters describing that pupil.

For those who needs eye textures - these are in BmGame.upk
Just extract this package using "-uncook" option and everything could be located in your_export_folder/Character_Shared.

Hi Gildor,

Thanks for the Great work ,:)

I exported the all from (FEChar_Catwoman_Animated_SF.upk) from umodel and import .pskx file in max 2010.
Actually i am interested in recreating the highres mesh from the exported catwoman mesh in zbrush,
Than retexture it using the exported textures. But i Have some problems:
1. The texture size exported by umodel is very small 128x128, but its showing 2048x2048 inside umodel viewer.
is the something i need to do before exporting the 2d textures? or is there some problem with umodel?

2. Is it possible to reexport the edited model and texture back into the game?

That's a standard problem which is described in FAQ and in "Usage problems" board.

First off; thanks a ton for creating and maintaining this software Gildor, it's nothing short of amazing.

I'm completely new to all of this, downloaded uModel this evening in fact, including 3D in general. So I'm without a doubt taking water over my head here; but sometimes jumping into the deep end of the pool is the best way to learn how to swim.
So that being said, I've been able to open up some packages from this game (Arkham City) and view as well as export some models etc. I did however run into some issues;

1. I have only imported Bane and Harley so far but the first problem I noticed is that Bane is transparent in a lot of places (legs, belt, "backpack" and tubes). Harley also seems to have minor texture issues in her face and cleavage, like they're not 'blending' properly or something.

2. I cannot get any animations to work. I keep getting an error saying; Unknown System Exception. It opens up ActorXImporter.ms and highlights line 1359 which says; "local SeqIdx = FindPsaTrackIndex Anims SeqName      --?? can cache this value"

3. I exported the Bane_skin model from BaneSS.upk to FBX and could open it just fine in Maya, but when I export any model from BaneSS_B1.upk they are all contorted and twisted around in horrible ways. I tried different models from that package as well as to manually export them as FBX in 3Ds Max (instead of using your script), but they all look completely messed up in Maya.

I haven't tried anything with any other models or packages yet.
And since I'm completely new to everything it may very well be issues on my end, and if that is the case I apologize in advance, but I would really appreciate any help I can get to sort these problems out.

Make sure you're using the newest plugin for 3DSMax. You
are clearly doing something wrong. I use max and maya
and the meshes are great. Make sure to update your FBX
plugin in both Max and Maya.. that is probably your problem.

Aren't you talking about "See-Thru Mesh" checkbox?

What version of ActorX Importer are you using?

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: hasch on February 21, 2012, 14:21
I downloaded the FBX plugins again as well as the ActorX Importer, just to be sure.
FBX Plugins from here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?id=10775855&siteID=123112
And the ActorX Importer from your website (version 1.24).

I think I solved the FBX issue. It seems that if I try to import another FBX file in the same scene where I imported another one (even if I delete it); the new one gets contorted and twisted.
But if I close the scene and make a new one; it seems to work as it should.

I still have the transparency and animation issues though.
I do not have "See-Thru Mesh" checked and Bane still looks like this;
http://i41.tinypic.com/qq3j1l.jpg

Interesting enough when I convert to FBX and import the model into Maya the mesh isn't transparent at all in the viewport, but when I render him some parts gets transparent; but it's different parts than in 3Ds Max. So I'm dumbfounded.
As for the animation I have no idea how to trouble-shoot it further, since I'm just getting the same error.

EDIT:
I may have worked out two out of three issues so far.
The animations seem to work fine in 3Ds Max 2011, but they don't work at all for me in 3Ds Max 2012.
I still have the transparency issues though (and maybe a few other mesh/texture related issues), however Bane looks slightly different in 3Ds Max 2011.
See here;

I've also noticed other mesh/texture related problems on some other models (penguin white face and left hand, harley weird "texture blending", catwoman promotional model has a fleshcolored rectangle on the back of her left arm etc).

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: wm2008 on February 22, 2012, 00:12
2012 had a major revision to the viewport renderer, that's why it looks different.  2011 does not have the "realistic" setting, which is the default setting for 2012.  The Bane model is also intact, the transparency issue you're seeing is related to the material layers.  Specifically, Bane_Legs_INST_Withered_Inertedflow_Pipes.  You can fix it manually if you really need to.

As for the animations, you probably have a conflicting plugin or script running.  I have had that same error before, in multiple versions, and it ended up being a plugin that was auto-loading at startup.  Animations should work just fine in 2012 (they do for me), so check your installation / settings.

Ah, makes sense (about the viewport).
And thanks for the tip regarding the transparency issue. I obviously still have a ton to learn as I just picked all of this up, but I went ahead and disabled the opacity in the node you mentioned which fixed it. Altough I may very well have broken something else in the process, I need to get more familiar with the software.

As for the animation issue in 2012; I don't have any other scripts or plugins installed other than the ActorX Importer and FBX Exporter. But maybe you're saying that something that comes with the software by default could be causing the issue?
Would be great to get it working in 3Ds Max 2012.

i'm having some trouble using umodel.  i'm probably not doing something right, but if anyone can help...

so i extract the sdl.dll and umodel.exe files to my arkham city folder (...\Batham Arkham City - PC\Batman - Arkham City\BmGame\CookedPCConsole), but when i run umodel.exe, a command window opens and then quickly closes.  i can't even read what it says.  i'm not really sure what i'm doing wrong?

thanks.

edit 1:  i also tried dragging some of the .upk files to umodel.exe, and i still get the same result: the command window opens and closes.

edit 2: okay, guess i was dragging the wrong files.  like the images shown, i tried dragging in playable_catwoman_std_sf.upk and it works i think...  now my question is how do you get the animset to show.  i tried the commands to go through animations, but nothing happens...  which other files do i need to drag in?

right, playable_catwoman_std_sf.upk has the skeletal mesh.  do you remember where the animations are?  there are a lot of anim_catwoman... files; none of which contain any mesh.  i'm not sure how to tie an animation from some anim_catwoman... file to the skeletal mesh in playable_catwoman_std_sf.upk.  the tutorial makes it seem like animations and skeletal meshes should be in the same .upk file.

thanks.

The files unwickedsick wants are from the main game (character skins that I think you unlock playing the game). Umodel works perfect with the PC version of the Harley DLC.

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City

Those are all DLC files that you have to pay for. None ship with the game.

Does anyone know which file Robin's shuriken mesh and texture are in? I thought for sure they'd be in one of the Harley's revenge files, but there are only like 5-6 upk files in the cookedpc folder dated after the original reatil release of 11/2011. The download size was a gig and a half and I can't find files in the batman folder that total even 100 meg, where is the rest of that 1.5 gig?

I also know robin was in the retail package, but the Playable Robin file only lists the staff. I'd just like to find the shuiken and maybe that snap trap or whatever it was he can stick on people.

Thanks.

Hi, guys.  I'm really sorry for the thread necromancy, but I thought it best to post here instead of opening up a new post.  I think I looked in the correct places, but have not been able to find this information.

Can Umodel pull environment data (3D info and textures) out of Batman: Arkham City?

Most of the comments I've read seem to be centered on 3D, textures, and animation of figure models.  Spending some time on Google I see that the most common method for pulling environmental information out of a PC game is 3D Ripper DX, but that method lists some incompatibility with this specific game.  I'm going to guess that the people supporting that software package are not as talented or motivated as Gildor was when he dug into Batman: Arkham City earlier in this thread.

Why do I want the environmental information?  I play the very cool tabletop game, "Batman: The Miniatures Game (http://www.knightmodels.com/index.php/shop/show/viewcategory/batman-miniature-game/IdCat_product/31)."  If you are a fan of the Batman: Arkham games or even The Dark Knight movie series, you should check the game out.  The game is very fun and the miniatures are fantastic.

Anyway, I am looking to re-create some of the areas in the Arkham City game as a table full of terrain for an upcoming convention, hoping to drum up local interest for the game.  I can take screen shots (Fraps), but it has been very difficult and slow-going.  After a couple of days trying to get 3D Ripper DX and 3D Via Printscreen to work, I find myself here.

If you are familiar with the game, I am looking for Mr. Freeze's Lab (inside the GCPD building), inside the museum (where Catwoman fights Two-Face), and/or the exterior area behind the movie theater (i.e. "Crime Alley").

Thank you very much.

Matt P

Hi,

Umodel can extract textures, meshes and animation. What did you mean when say "environment data"?

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: mplonski on September 22, 2014, 18:35
Sorry if I was unclear.  Here is a shot of a room that I am interested in:

My goal would be to get a file that I could load into something like Rhino3D that would give me the 'room' information for an environment in the game.  Since I am trying to physically build the room so I can use it with my miniatures (http://www.knightmodels.com/index.php/shop/show/viewproduct/batman/IdProduct/125), I need to know how long the wall is, where the steps will go, etc..  Texture information will be great when painting, but I would really like the 3D dimensions more.

I am not as interested in what Batman, himself, looks like in that room since I already have a great physical model of him.

Again, I am sorry for my ignorant request.  This is my last hope before I have to go back to measuring pixels on a JPG.  (The above room at least has tiles on the floor.  Most other rooms are not as convenient.)  Thank you again.

Matt

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Gildor on September 22, 2014, 20:36
If I understand you correctly, you're trying to rip entire level with "single click". It is not possible, sorry. You may extract compound parts of the level, and then you'll need to use some editor to reconstruct the level. Entire level geometry could be ripped with "3D Ripper", "Assassin ripper" etc - this software hooks all calls to video card driver and reconstructs geometry from them.

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: mplonski on September 22, 2014, 22:56
OK, thank you.  "3D Ripper DX" has an incompatibility with B:AC. (As I said, those guys probably ran into the same issues you did but did not prevail.)  I have not heard of "Game Assassin," so I will try that.

I would be willing to pull things apart manually, if it comes to it, so I may be back if "Game Assassin" doesn't work.  I am not afraid of doing the work, but since this thread existed I figured I'd ask first.  Thank you very much for your courteous reply.

Matt

Title: Re: Batman Arkham City
Post by: Gildor on September 22, 2014, 23:11
I think that incompatibility goes from different DirectX versions. Most likely Batman utilizes DX11, while (I think) 3D Ripper works with DX9.

Hello!

I'd like to move a character model from Street Fighter 5 to replace a playable character in Batman Arkham Knight/City.  I guess it's possible and not too difficult,  or maybe I'm naive?  (I'm new to this)

Found that people had already shared the SF5 models in that section of the site.  Will the Batman games recognize the skeleton of the body for the animations to work,  or will I need to map that out manually?

Thanks!

Well, probably WiiU version of the game has some special modifications, or may be it's because of "Armored Edition" of the game.

Hello everyone, new to the forum. Is it possible to delete specific files from an upk file in the Arkham games? I specifically want to delete/turn off the sound effects that play when you lose your freeflow combo and when you gain the ability to do takedowns. I found what i think are the files for those sound effects in a folder named SBJ_Subjectives but can't turn them off with console commands, so my idea is that i could decompress the BmGame.upk, delete the files and then re compress the upk without them. Thank you in advance.

Firstly, your wording is wrong. "Delete file from file"... Upk is not an archive, if you meant that. Secondly, it is possible to unpack (decompress, not extract - see FAQ for details if needed) the upk, edit it with a binary editor (if you know where to edit), so the sound for instance will have a different name, and the game won't find it. And thirdly, have a hope that the engine won't crash because of the missing resource (it can!)

Thank you for your answer. Sadly, i don't know how to use HxD by myself, i used it once but while following a Youtube tutorial step by step and for a specific situation. I guess i'll look for more in depth Youtube tutorials.
