And I got a question how to extract from .hogg. When you update the client it will automatically extract all to install dir

How do we go about getting stuff out of the .BNK files?

Hm, extracted all content but so far it still seems its the same stuff

So .hogg file extracted is the same as the foxgame folder?

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: pixellegolas on March 02, 2012, 18:08
I haven't seen any difference, it was 200mb difference comparing the 2 folders so something should be different, I just did not look carefully :)

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution

I am going about this the wrong way, what'm I meant to do once I extract from the .hogg files?

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: pixellegolas on March 04, 2012, 03:28
after the extraction you should have a new foxgame folder and there you have all upk like all other unreal games, do like normally there

it looks like you right, after extraction the hogg archive you get almost the same content as you get after updating the game :-\

I have that, save for the files in the FoxGame folder are .BNK files instead of .UPK files.

Found upk's in the DLC folder:
Blacklight Retribution OB\Blacklight Retribution\Live\FoxGame\DLC\PCConsole

Haven't found a skeletal mesh of the mech unit though, just a static in the training level (unless I'm mistaken)

"New" russian version of BLR have all PS4 stuff (probably because it's just PS4 port). Meshes can be correctly exported, but textures use "redux" system,so I can't export them. Is it even possible?
I also tried Tribes textures tool but it didn't work at all.

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gazyi on July 31, 2015, 12:34
I can't understand how UModel finds texture.cache.hdr.rtc. I copied it in both game root and CookedPCConsole but it still says "unable to find texture.cache.hdr.rtc".

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gildor on July 31, 2015, 12:43
Isn't this file exists for Tribes? Or the same tech is used for Blacklight?

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gazyi on July 31, 2015, 13:44
Blacklight was updated 2 days ago, they're using "redux" texture compression system now. Tribes also uses that system, but it has different version (headers in hdr.rtc are different). But both don't have texture support now (downloaded Tribes: Ascend, tried it, same error).

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gildor on July 31, 2015, 13:47
If error is "unable to find file", but file exists - most likely this is your mistake.
I usually recommend people to open files directly from installed game because too many people having troubles after copying files.

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gazyi on July 31, 2015, 14:12
Then why Tribes: Ascend, that I just installed and haven't move anything in it yet, doesn't have texture support? Also, I didn't move Blacklight caches out of game folder or something, if you're talking about that. I just moved them to the same place where they was in Tribes, since I used Tribes: Ascend overwrite for Blacklight.

May be something is broken now. But I can't test - I don't have any Tribes files on my PC right now.

Do you need any files from Blacklight ?
Fact is: The normal game is ok - the textures of the DLCs don´t work.

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution

Registered just now to bring up the fact that all textures exported from Blacklight are now just 100% black.

This has been happening ever since the big patch. Looks like you guys are already aware of the problem though. Let me know if there is any way I can help out. I was right in the middle of a big extraction project when this happened so now I'm stuck. I can't even use TexMod to get the textures from the game because the game requires you to go through a launcher.

Did UModel lost compatibility with Tribes: Ascend after some patch to that game, or due to some changes in UModel? Could anyone test it?

I just installed Tribes Ascend and was able to view a few models just fine:

So, report that Tribes support has been broken is not very true.

No problem! Hope you can figure out what's up with BLR so I can continue my project. BLR's armor is so cool it's just begging to be brought over to other games.

Lol, yeah. Any extracted textures is just black. This also makes any previewed models appear completely invisible.

Same crap, or is that really supportet ?

Got the same thing, ever since the update the textures remain black. The models are unseen but exportable, just not the textures. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Probably I'll find some time. Could you upload some rtc, its hdr, and game exe (if exe is not encrypted, of course - otherwise I can't do anything).

Is there also .data.rtc files for those 2 you sent to me? Also I'd like to get upk files which references them - perhaps any file which contains textures.
Also a question: how many .hdr.rtc files are there?

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: moviemaker100 on September 26, 2015, 14:05
Yeah, there are 2 data.rtc files with 2 and 3 gb each. No clue what file is referencing them. Upk & co you can have:
http://depositfiles.com/files/qzrrkjb4m

If I may suppose something: If the rtcs are converted to tfcs - all may be ok.

I've got the game. And I have only 2 rtc files located in FoxGame/Redux:
texture.cache.0.data.rtc
texture.cache.hdr.rtc
(first one is large, second is small).

I'm trying to support it now.

The models and textures of this game are great!

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution

Blacklight: Retribution textures are now supported. Fortunately the game uses a bit modified texturing system from Tribes Ascend. Note that there was a bug preventing Tribes textures to appear in UModel, it should be fixed now.

IMPORTANT

1. You must override game to "Tribes Ascend" (Tribes 4), if you prefer command line - use -game=t4 for that. Probably I'll change this override later, but for the moment you should say to UModel that this is Tribes game. Both games has no changes in the engine, except that they use "Redux" system (from Substance?).

2. You must set root game directory to include both "CookedPCConsole" and "Redux" directories. If you'll set it to "Cooked...", UModel will not find "Redux" and textures will not work. In my case (perhaps in everyone's case) you should set root to "BlackLight Retribution/FoxGame".

Note that this game has unusual alpha channel use in diffuse texture, so if you'll see that parts of the mesh are missing in viewer, press "M" key to see mesh without textures - most likely these parts will appear (but untextured).

Also my game installation has only 1 data.hdr.rtc file, all other rtc files did exist during install process but were merged into a single rtc file and then removed by patcher.

I did a very little testing, so there could be some issues.

You've covered log window which could be the most useful in your screenshot. By the way, I think you either didn't read my message with red text, or specified root game directory incorrectly, so UModel can't find rtc files in "Redux" directory. Adding that to "red text" above ...

I have followed all of these instructions. I have no idea why this isn't working. Is this game no longer supported?

I first download the latest version (Win32). Afterwards, I launch it. Selecting the proper directory (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/blacklightretribution/.../FoxGame/" and switching the override settings to "Unreal Engine 3" and "Tribes: Ascend", I then press "Okay".

Aftewards, I can navigate down the path to "FoxGame/DLC/PCConsole/" and so on. Once I find a UPK file I want to open, it either displays a weird distorted image, a windows-logo colored block, or just some random black and white floating textures. I have tried pressing the M button, and that did nothing.

I have tried this on both the old game files (pre-parity patch - yes I still have them) and new game files (post-parity patch). I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. Could you provide any help?

Example of trying to open armor. Tried a bunch of files. All give similar results on both versions. Looking to extract the "Beta Head" trophy and I don't think I can get anywhere at this rate...

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution
Post by: Gildor on December 20, 2015, 12:14
1. "Windows logo colored textures" - UModel can't detect which textures to apply and applies some "default texture".
2. On your screenshot I see "Masked" material. It seems that opacity texture is not simple, and it is displayed wrong. This happens often with various games, and you may disable opacity by switching to alternative (more simple) renderer with Ctrl+G key.

This situation was discussed many times on this forum, probably in FAQ too. If you want to see this mesh fully textured, you should recreate materials by hands in Unreal engine, 3ds Max or other application.

I have also seen this around this thread as well. I've tried every solution posted but I just can't figure out how to get this to work.

Maybe I have installed it wrong? Here are the steps I have taken to try and get this to work:

1 - Download umodel_win32.zip (I run 64 bit OS but there is no 64bit version and Blacklight: Retribution also has no x64 version)
2 - Extract contents of umodel_win32.zip to BLR installation (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/blacklightretribution/FoxGame)
3 - Run UModel.exe
4 - Check "Override Game Detection" and set settings to "Unreal Engine 3" and "Tribes: Ascend"
5 - Press "OK"
6 - Browse to "DLC/PCConsole/<files>"

Upon opening them all I get is either a weird texture as shown previously, a box with some metal texture on it, or the windows box. I don't know what I am doing wrong here.
CTRL + G doesn't seem to be helping at all either. I don't even want the texture - I just want the model.

Video link showing exactly what I am doing:

I see you've missed very basic things of UModel use. Watch these videos - http://www.youtube.com/user/gildororg/videos
(ignore command line part of tutorial, but you really need to watch how to use UModel ...)
All most important commands are duplicated with UI, but I feel you didn't look at menus at all.

In addition to those:
- in UModel's menu, check "Navigate | Include meshes" to show only meshes.
- in select package UI, you may execute "Tools | Scan content" to see which packages has models, animations etc.

Title: Re: Blacklight: Retribution

zlib error "-3" means corrupted data. That could mean:

1) you have corrupted data (highly unlikely)
2) Redux has replaced zlib with something else
3) some encryption was added
4) metadata formats has been changed (also unlikely, UModel would crash in a different place then)
