Title: Bulletstorm
Post by: esr911 on January 26, 2011, 07:14
Checking out the new Bulletstorm x360 demo and this is what I find. This is for those like me who don't want to wait until the PC version comes out to hear what's going on.

background. Bulletstorm is as big of a deal as Gears of War was and Gears of War 2. Why.. it is because it is using a seriously upgraded version of the Unreal Engine 3. Well Bulletstorm is using UE3.5 and is the first one to my knowledge.

Verdict:
As expected nothing works. even with -nomesh -nostat -noanim -notex. Atleast the package loads 742.29 version, Listing assets also works in packages. it seems that the formats are vastly different.

so here are the xbox360 files that are needed from the demo.

This game is expected on the PC too, so I will wait for the release to avoid unnecessary work.

Hmmm ... I like this game too much, so I've made Bulletstorm support (based on the XBox360 demo).
Enjoy ;)

Umodel was crashing on some skeletal meshes. I've fixed that issue.

How extract the file from demo? Or what program?

I have extracted two of the characters from the demo, Ishi and Grey. Found in BSStart. Just wondering if theres anyway to get the rest of the characters. I.E. All of the NPCs.

I understand its a demo, but there are NPCs that you fight against in the demo. So i was wondering if you could extract the NPCS.

According to the demonstration of technology used in Bulletstorm, developers have made all male models from the single mesh.

Similar technique were used in old game "Kingpin". Developers were made a few meshes and a lot of skins for them - separate skins for head, body and legs. That gives them possibility to make very large set of possible personages.

It will go perfect. There are some issues with the animation so we already know that. Gildor is already working on it ;)

I'm currently taking a look at the PS3 version of the game to check for new music. However, many of the XXX files can't be extracted with umodel. The error message is "assertion failed: unk10 == 1". Here are some samples of files that don't work: http://www9.zippyshare.com/v/VKf5T50s/file.html
Any ideas?

Please redownload UModel. I've fixed the crash, and also improved support for PS3 audio - UModel will save it as MP3 files instead of "*.ps3audio".

Oh ok, thanks, that worked. However I'm wondering about the *.soundnodelooping, *.soundnodecue etc. files that are normally extracted with extract.exe. Can they also be extracted with umodel?

Title: Re: Bulletstorm
Post by: Gildor on February 15, 2016, 01:55
No. Only SoundNodeWave contains sound data.

Thanks for your fast reply. The thing is, as I'm archiving game music I also try to gather files that are needed for music playback. Those files can be extracted with your extract.exe and it works like a charm but only for files that are supported. Why aren't those uploaded samples supported by extract.exe?
Sorry for bugging, I just want to understand the restrictions.

Ah, sorry, rebuilt and uploaded extractor and decompressor too.
