Title: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: veselaki on March 05, 2009, 03:10
Hi guys!

First i have to say, welldone Gildor very good tool!

My question is about MK vs DCU xbox360 version, its an unreal engine 3 based game and the models are stored in .xxx files i think. Is it possible to add support for it. Maybe the file system is similar to GoW and GoW2.

It is possible, but I will not promise.

I think this would be a very good title as well as the new highlander game because there aren't any fighting or martial arts game yet that Umodel supports, and that would make the animation more fun to play with.

Yeah, especially now with the new unreal engine 3 support.

I tried the new version of umodel with one of the xxx files of the game but i got an error, probably Midway have modified the engine. Ive uploaded the file so gildor can have a look when he has the time.

I have added Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe support to umodel. Animations are not supported.

Development has been sponsored by Esr911.

Gildor, you - genius!

I am in awe, watching videos and screenshots of the game with a horror of knowing that I will never convert the model from it!

And then this news!

Thank you!

Supporting Gildor by Donating WORKS.

Supporting Umodel by Donating WORKS.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is a personal favorite, and I wanted to support it's full implementation in umodel. I donated in hopes that soon it would be a reality. I want to thank Gildor from the bottom of my heart for this.

I encourage everyone who hasn't donated to start. This projects needs your support. Please show your appreciation to Gildor and Umodel by Donating.

Gildor is a great man, and very honorable. I am blessed to be able to work with such an amazing and giving individual. We need your support so umodel can support the massive amount of Epic Games that are going to be released and make umodel truly even more amazing than it is.

Excellent. The application extracts the in game models perfectly. I was hoping that it would also work with tna impact as the game is made by the same company but no luck.

Any plans of supporting that game with future releases?

No such plans. I don't like fighting games :(
MK vs DC was supported only because of esr911 donation.

Very complex question :)
There is no "price list" for support. Also, support for one game may be done with 1-2 hours, but another game may require a few days of full-time work.

Hello guys,

Figured i would ask here...i am having an issue in 3ds max with extracted meshes from MKvsDC.
My workflow is umodel to extract to md5 then import to max.

It seems the smoothing groups are messed up or something.  Here is a picture with highlighted problem areas:

How would i go about fixing this in 3ds max?  I tried clearing all smoothing groups and autosmooth with different values but to no avail :(

Its probably something simple that i am missing...any help is appreciated

Look at Umodel ! If in umodel are the same problems ??? Or they are only in MAX ?

Have you try welding the mesh up?

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: interloko on August 13, 2009, 13:37
there is no problem.
in mk vs dc the characters will change their aspect when get hit some times. (broken clothes, etc.)

Yes, the characters have different changes that occur when hit, such as ripped clothes.

Also, don't forget about the fatalities may play a role here.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: Ace-Angel on August 14, 2009, 03:01
What about them?

Many things changed in MK vs DC, for example, at first you could rip off people's head, now you can't with the changes they made later on.

For all I know (I don't have the game BTW) they small mesh's which are around the head area could have been part of a Fatality Animation.

I don't have the game, so I'm guessing here what they did.

Here is how the mesh looks in Umodel:

I actually have never used the viewer until just now but it seems weird to me that it does not display the whole mesh but the parts it does display are having the smoothing issues in max.

Here is sonya mesh with similar issues:

The non textured areas are exactly where i am having issues.
Is this a problem with umodel itself? i really have no clue at this point

arent those just face lying on top of the model? if not it is a bit strange :)

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: Gildor on August 14, 2009, 10:33
MK vs DC models has a LOTS of surfaces (more than 50). But only a few materials are assigned.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: Ace-Angel on August 14, 2009, 15:34
Those ARE the damage areas.

The game will load the 'damaged' textures onto each separate mesh depending on Hits or Progress of damage on character.
Some can also be affected by fatalities.

Just look how the games plays on YouTube or something. That's how it's done. They're not going to load a new complete mesh for a little bit of damage, this will waste resources much quicker.

Try selecting in your 3D Editor (for me 3DS Max) the model by 'Element', you should be able to select only the main mesh and leave the rest out. However, if you 'Detach' the said model, you'll lose the Bone, but I'm pretty sure the bone has it's own weights already applied, so it's a matter of rerigging the Bones via 'Skin' to the Model.

Once again, I'm not sure if this technique will work since I don't have the game...but try...

Is there any way to extract the special effects audio files (files beginning with "snd_sfx")?

Umodel doesnt find any supported files as I am assuming that it only looks for models, textures and animations. It would be cool if I could extract the audio files in the original format.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried EkszBox-ABX as well as dragon unpacker but both applications cant read the data within a compressed *.xxx file. Both applications state that there are no files found.

I've tried extract.exe but I am getting the error: "ERROR: Unable to open file snd_sfx_raid.xxx

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

This means that extract.exe cannot find a file. You should supply a FULL filename.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

I assumed that I would need to specify the full path as it was in the same directory. Managed to extract it now, feel like such a noob  :-[

Now that I've managed to extract the files,I have no idea how to open them. The file extensions are "FmodDesignerProject" , "FmodEventParameter" , "FmodEvent" and "Package". The naming of the "FmodEvent" files lead me to believe that these are the sound files.

I've downloaded an application called fmod designer but it cant seem to open any of these files. Anybody have any ideas???

Thanks.

These files are created by "extract". Umodel will not produce such files.
"Extract" tool produces files in internal UE formats, so these files are cannot be opened by any application directly! With some knowlege you can rip sounds and texts from these files, but no way to load them into any application.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: tekken57 on October 14, 2009, 17:39
I see, thanks for your response anyways.

One more question, I think I may have found the fmod project file required to open the sound files but I get a strange error with extract when try to uncompress the xxx file i.e:

"******** c:\umodel\FmodAudio.xxx ********
*** ERROR: lzxd_decompress() returned 11
appDecompressLZX <- appDecompress <- FUE3ArchiveReader::PrepareBuffer <- FUE3ArchiveReader::Serialize <- FArchive::ByteOrderSerialize <- FPackageFileSummary<<:Ver=0/0 <- UnPackage::UnPackage:c:\umodel\FmodAudio.xxx <- Main"

Sorry to keep bugging you.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: Gildor on October 14, 2009, 19:53
It looks like this is a script package (analogue of *.u files in other UE games). It should not be interesting for you - this is a game interface for FMod library.
MK vs DC has non-standard compression for script packages, that's why umodel (and extract.exe) failed to load them. This is not a bug. Umodel cannot detect compression algorithm. All XBox360 UE3 games uses LZX, but most Midway's games uses LZO for script packages for all platforms.

Title: Re: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
Post by: tekken57 on October 16, 2009, 10:16
You are right, the FmodAudio.xxx  didnt contain anything important. By using a hex editor on the xxx file, I determined that the file was a container for a fsb file. I managed to extract the file and then converted it to wav.

Just thought I'd post the info in case anybody else wants to extract the audio.

I having this massage only with all the characters files (for example: CHAR_Baraka.xxx) and the scene files(for example: BGND_GothamCity.xxx).
However, other file like; FX_DeathStroke.xxx or ui_s_characterViewer.xxx are load and viewing OK. Only the the characters files (CHAR_Baraka.xxx is a character file right?) and the scene that i can not open.

I have been follow "How to Extract using uModel like a Pro" and "Importing / Exporting Full Models Tutorial".

So I wonder if i miss a step? or
if there something that i need to do with the file first?
and is this what Veselaki is talking about on the 2nd post?
I am using the Umodel that Updated on 25 February, 2010 - 00:57.

Plases help me, I have been reading this Forums over and over but i still can not get it to work for me.
Thank you.

PS: Sorry if my english is not good. And I am not a coder, I can only work on 3ds max.
