I extract it from the zip file in the downloads folder, open the umodel-master and enter a terminal and type ./build.sh, I get this......(see attached txt file)

Then type ./umodel and nothing comes up.....am I doing this right or me being just a bad noob?, this is also in a VM would that be causing trouble?

I'm also using Linux from vmware. I have Linux Mint installed. I see the problem in your log file. You didn't build UModel, there were several errors in log. Errors happens in third-party library ASTC used by UModel. Also I see that you're using gcc 7.1.1, while my linux distro uses 5.4.0. Probably ASTC is not compatible with newest gcc (actually I already did some fixes in its code to be able to build UModel with gcc 5.4).

What linux distro do you use? Why are you building UModel for linux under VM?

I'd recommend you using Ubuntu-based distribution, because Arch Linux is for more powerful users (even more powerful than I).

Yes, ./build.sh should be enough to compile. But there's incompatibility between ARM's ASTC library and GCC 7's standard libraries - name conflicts with functions fmin/fmax (this is what could be seen from your log). If you can fix that by yourself - good. If not - I suppose Arch Linux would be too hard for you.
