I know this game has a fair share of of topics already, but they seem to all be abandon at this time, so i wanted to make this, as a attempt to spark interest in this again. Dragon Quest XI was a hard game to get working with Umodel, we have been able to get the models like characters and weapons, through unorthodox ways but it still yielded results. but for issue with opening textures, prevent this from being 100% achievable, specifically the normal maps, most work, but there are some that don't appear correctly, or at worst just crash umodel entirely. for the normals that don't look right i tried all that i could, changing the platforms to either ps4 or pc. none work. Although Dragon quest XI S is out and can be preview all models and textures with no problems, there are differences to the models and textures. if a normal map for a weapon crashed for the pc version of dq 11 then that was fine because the normal map from dq 11 s would replace it, but i can't do that with the character models, as the pc version is higher poly, it uses different textures and uv maps which makes it currently impossible to use the switch's textures.

No idea about normal maps. But in crash message, I see you're using game override "Tekken 7" - why are you doing so?

its the only way to open models, both use 4.14, but when you use 4.14 you can read the textures but not the skeletal or static meshes

A part of me feels that this issue with the incorrect normals may have come from a bad dump, which could be possible- but for the ones that crash umodel seems to be a universal problem with others.

i've been looking around other threads but i have yet to find anyone provide a more in-depth reason why some normal maps crash- if my memory serves me correctly there was texture i couldn't open before, but then a couple of u-model builds later it opens without a problem.

it seems all normal maps in this game uses format: PF_BC5. is that a format known to have issues?

UModel doesn't decode BC5 for use in renderer, it passes it directly to OpenGL. So if this would be a decoder problem, it would appear only when you're exporting the texture to png or tga.
Please upload a sample texture somewhere, I'll check if there's something special in a log (e.g. saying that texture is using some kind of postprocessing etc for better compression).
