Are you sure the static mesh is supported?

Give me the problematic file, please. I've changed something for UE4.20 (Fortnite) StaticMesh today, and I see that you're using recent version, so I'd like to verify that my recent changes didn't break anything else.

Thanks for looking into the issue ! Bit of a problem getting the file as I cannot extract the static files using program using UModel. Tried opening the .pak files with a few programs no luck. Will check if I can get some QuickBMS scrit to open them. Any other way extracting files from .pak?

Cheers

Sorry, I didn't understand. Does UModel crash when you're trying to access StaticMesh, or you even can't get to mesh assets at all - it crashes before showing the package list dialog window?

Update If you can see uasset list in umodel, then you can navigate to the problematic asset and use "Tools | Save packages", then send me files from "UmodelSaved" directory.

Sorry, should have been a bit more specific... I can see the assets. I can scan and sort in flat view. But beyond that I can't do anything. 'Export' option crashes UModel. The 'SavePackages' Option is not active...

Face bones of the head (both male and female) do nothing when imported.

Must be some kind of morph target generated mesh unless I'm missing something here. And yeah I used build 760 (Latest one).

Fixed static mesh support in new UModel (build 761). You should select "Dauntless" from the game list. Static mesh support wasn't broken because of UE4.20 code, it has something custom inside.

Hello Gildor !

I just downloaded the latest version of UE VIEWER (15 September, 2018) to extract some model of Dauntless, but every time i try to open a model (.uasset files ?) it crash because of some error messages. However i tried several ways :

-whithout override game detection

-whith override game detection, (unreal engine 4 / unreal engine 4.17 selected)

-whith override game detection, (unreal engine 4 / dauntless selected)

here are some screenshots :

Do you think you can help me find a solution? manny thanks again ! (and sorry for my bad english)

Title: Re: Dauntless

Let's think a little bit.
Game worked before, and then stopped working. Most likely it got some update - ENGINE update. It used 4.17 before, and got updated. Unless developers are crazy, they will never update to an OLDER engine. Then, in theory, you had to try "engine versions after 4.17".

According to Wikipedia, this is an "upcoming game". In other words, "beta" or "early access". It should be changed frequently. I've added special code for this game before, and now this seems broken.

Post by: ravio_UE on September 22, 2018, 10:04
Thank you !

When I have time I will try to open the meshes with versions above the ue 4.17...  ...maybe it will work !
Unless it's a particular version of the unreal engine

I've tried to replace "Dauntless" code to use 4.19 engine, with proper fix for StaticMesh. Please try new UModel, set game to "Dauntless" and try all types of supported resources.

Looks like they've updated the game again. It's 4.20.3 this time, same case; skeletal mesh works, static doesn't (tried on 4.20 override, dauntless override no longer works).

Title: Re: Dauntless
Post by: venturion on July 28, 2019, 04:57
Looks like Dauntless override still works with static mesh, and for skeletal mesh 4.22 override needs to be enabled to make it works.

Works amazingly well on Dauntless (Still Unreal Engine 4.22). And your pskx importer for Max does an outstanding job too.
A bit of work to do as the default textures exported seem to be those with Damaged areas (after the boss has been wounded). Alphas need to be exported from TGAs and reworked a bit, some normals are weird and might be managed by the game's code as they don't look like usual normal maps (details in the same position as the diffuse map). Can't find a solution for that, no big deal.

The bone structure for all monsters is really impressive. Every feather, every muscle, etc can be controlled separately. I can't imagine half of the nightmare it might have been for animators to manage such a complex structure. Damn cool to be able to see the skinning weights and how all this was done.
Thanks Gildor !  :D

Something really cool : in most if not all games, there is never the full body underneath clothes, only the visible skin parts. But for some reason (Probably Unreal Engine takes care of showing/calculating only the visible parts) in this game we can extract clothes + the full nude body. That's damn useful !

One thing I didn't quiet understand : If I select a folder on the left in the "Choose a package to open" window and click export, I get some of the files. Only way to really get all the files inside the folder is to select all the files in the right panel and click export. Then they're all there. Weird ?

P.S : The UE Viewer tends to crash sometimes (especially on the World props for some reason, couldn't extract any of them). Could you please consider saving the last "Path to game files" entered so that we can go straight back to what we were doing when re-opening the Viewer ? Thanks for eventually considering this request ;)

Dauntless support in UModel has only special code for StaticMesh. So, for testing you can disable StaticMesh loading and find an engine version used for this game. Current support is based on UE4.20, however if engine has been changed - things won't work.

Title: Re: Dauntless
Post by: venturion on May 28, 2020, 06:55
They've switched to 4.24, and it's likely going to be upped to 4.25 in a next season or two.

4.25/dauntless tag seems to stop working, the engine files show 4.25 although 4.26 fix skeletal meshes but static still have errors
(https://i.ibb.co/DzK6cy8/Nowy-obraz-mapy-bitowej-6.png)
here is example uasset
https://www50.zippyshare.com/v/w8m17h31/file.html

I was wondering if someone can upload older pak folder that worked with static meshes.

Title: Re: Dauntless

Title: Re: Dauntless
Post by: InSaiyan on November 09, 2020, 11:21
seems like it didnt changed much i tried 4.25/4.26 with changing platforms/classes and same error pops out, also checked file that worked with older paks before and some other fatal showing up
(https://i.ibb.co/PMgHVGc/Nowy-obraz-mapy-bitowej-7.png)

https://www99.zippyshare.com/v/1pdN5Pe2/file.html

I recheck binaries and noticed that every lib is 64bit so maybe its 32bit umodel with 64 bit packages compatibility problem, but second though that would make every file unreadable

Title: Re: Dauntless
Post by: InSaiyan on November 09, 2020, 15:15
Don't want to be pain in the ass but i noticed some problems

1. Some items have "broken" meshes there are random pieces floating or 100% opacity i guess custom materials make object invisible its actualy no problem after clicking "I" you will see full no textured mesh
2. Second weird thing is let say i firstly open texture it load and view normaly but after opening some skeletal mesh with custom materials suddenly it breaks viewing texture after trying to reopen same texture it shows nothing, more weirdest part technicly program still view textured mesh correctly

this 2 problems are irrelevant to fix i only write them to somehow help identify a problem so the real thing is that i cant export textures (meshes/animations/mat are exporting correctly) even from environment meshes that have no effects/opacity and dont break viewing textures no files are creating. Tested 4.25/4.26/dauntless

https://www116.zippyshare.com/v/OEF0kwE9/file.html

#Edit
I checked other game that worked with older umodel version from like week ago, it seems like the problem isnt related to dauntless because i cant extract textures either there (.txt files for mat also have Error creating) Tested few extract directions/admin permission/only texture class neither worked.

The provided file exported just fine.
You have "error creating file" in log. Two possibilities are there: your user name contains non-ASCII characters, or the exported path is too long - Windows has restriction to 256 or 128 characters I think.

I recently got back into Dauntless and the Nayzaga mask inspired me to make an original character with a mask much like the Nayzaga one! I really wanted to make a 3D model of this new character, using an edited version of the Nayzaga mask. I know how to look at the textures using UModel, but can't seem to figure out how to open the models themselves into Unity. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I'll admit, I'm a little new to this-
How exactly would I go about getting the PSKs?

I should add that all of the files say .uasset

Title: Re: Dauntless
Post by: Juso3D on October 18, 2021, 13:48
You need to use uModel to open the game files to find said Mask you want, exporting will export out has a PSK by default, you will then use the Blender Befzz Importer Addon (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Befzz/blender3d_import_psk_psa/latest/addons/io_import_scene_unreal_psa_psk_280.py) to port into Blender to then export out has a FBX to then import into Unity, sounds complicated but isn't.

The game is on 4.26 at the moment. Here is temporary specific build for the game - game specific override is required, like in official builds. It will be removed after override option will be updated to 4.26 in the official build.

Update: All issues should be fixed in latest official build.
