Unreal Engine 3 .pdb files
« on: May 14, 2024, 12:16 »

Hello Smiley

I just wanted to contact @gildor but that seems to be a bit difficult, so i will try it here.

Long story, short written :

Im a huge fan of a game, and some day the company went bankrupt. They made a dlc that was never published.
I got in contact with one of the developer to get more info, and some day he send me the whole backup of the Unreal Engine 3 that they used so i could check out the dlc and make my own levels.
So far so good…

Some day, i messed up the engine by mistake and asked again for the files.
He send me the zip and i deleted the old engine.
Now i unzipped it, and all files in the binaries folder were .pdb files.
No exe…nothing, just pdb.

I asked him what happend, and on his system also all binaries files were pdbs…the rest like content and stuff was all good.
Unfortainly we both dont have a backup anymore and we are a bit frustrated.
We dont have coding experience or anything like that, so the question is…is there a way to get the files back or even better : get the engine running again ?

Its so sad and we dont know how that could happen (since its only the engine folder).
I tryed to replace some stuff with udk files or the full available ue3, but without success (i guess there need to be done some coding)

Hope someone can help us Smiley

Cheers and thanks Smiley

Hi. It is not possible to restore code, if it was deleted. Despite pdb files are larger that exe itself, it doesn't contain code - it just says what is located at some particular piece of exe file, links between binary and cpp code.

Oh no, thats not what i wanted to hear :/

I guess in the binaries folder are some things inside that needs to be coded i guess, since just replacement files from UDK or the Full Unreal Engine didnt seem to work ?

I also tryed to past / replace the Gamefiles with UdkGame but in the assets browser it says it cant load it :/

I have tryed it again to replace some files since some cfg files are still there...thats where the spash screen stops : What does that mean ?
