GearGame.xxx GOW3 retail won't decompress with decompress.exe

Hi

GearGame.xxx won't decompress with decompress.exe, it just throws an error Sad


BETA package decompresses without issues.

I have exactly the same error message on GearGame.xxx file. Where did you get this file? On this forum or from the retail game? I'm asking that because it looks like our files are identical, but my file is not from retail game - I have no retail files at all. Probably the file is damaged, because the problem is a single place in package, everything else extracted fine.

Was from GOW3 retail ISO, I can confirm that both BETA builds of the file work but this one doesn't seem to be working Sad

The same error appears with XBox360 version of Borderlands 2, with startup.xxx file. I've checked this crash. It looks like either this is a bug in mspack library (umodel uses it to decompress MS LZX format), or MS has extended LZX format with a new features, which are not supported by mspack.

Some technical details: LZX stored all information inside data blocks. Each block has type identifier. mspack has support for block types 1, 2 and 3, while decompression is failed when the block of type 5 appears.

I've fixed this error. That was a bug in mspack library which I use to decode LZX compression.
