Most likely a stupid question from a newbie
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:44 »

Look I'm not good when i comes to computers so reading this is kinda confusing to me so I'd like some help.
I downloaded the GUI for umodel and have read the FAQ but I'm still quite lost.

See I would like to view the models from both Borderlands 1 and 2. I just don't know what files are what and how to use them. I just want to get good screenshots of certain models so I can use them as reference in my art.

Can someone please help this really confused person?

Many thanks in advance.

If you have facebook access - look at some screenshots:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.195104363866705.43954.176350295742112&type=3

Here you may see names of the files (*.upk) which you may try to open.

Thanks I did find those helpful.

Under the model er "Staticmesh" I think it's called there are Texture2D files that contain the other skins used in the games. Is there a way of putting those on the model?

Also I got "
COMMAND LINE ERROR: too much arguments
Use "umodel" without arguments to show command line help"

Is that a easy fix? or should I ignore it?

I think you're doing something completely wrong. There should not be .Texture2D files, you should open .upk or .xxx files (whatever your game has).
Show me what you're typing to get the command line error.

I'm sure I m doing it all wrong haha

Anyway I did some screenshots to show you what I did.

Of course if I'm doing it all wrong or there is no way of viewing all the colours the models come in I'm fine with that. Most of this really does confuse me so thank you for helping.

On the last screenshot you're clicking on "Package" class, not on "Texture2D". That's unsupported class and umodel displayed such message.

Okay I understand that now. I can't say put the "Texture2D" on the Mesh right?

I can find all the models in the Borderlands in the cooked folder but I can't find any viewable models in the Borderlands 2 one.

Sorry for wasting your time with this it's all new to me.

Keep on trying, you'll find the way Smiley
Also you could start a package, not an object (click on the right part of GUI), but add "-meshes" option before that. You'll see the umodel window, and browse objects with PgUp/PgDn keys.
