Nearly no vehicle animations are exported
« on: February 09, 2014, 16:24 »

Hi!
Why umodel exports nearly all skeletal meshes, but nearly no vehicle anims?
Character anims are exported nearly all, together with the skeletals.
Just vehicles, especially something like cars nearly get no data as "animset".
Why..?
Thanx!

Hi.
Are you spoeaking about all Unreal games in general, or about some particular game?

I believe that it's much easier to animate vehicle procedurally, directly controlling bones from code.

Sadly I´m speaking about Unreal games in general.
I´m hunting animated vehicles like the devil - but mostly I got only a skeletal..or even nothing.
So I ask, if that is "normal" or if I do something wrong...

Often an animation for a vehicle is exported, but it does NOT work.

Character animation files work like a charme - vehicles are a big problem.

And what do you mean with animating "procedurally"..?
With what software I should do that..?
Thanx!

Example. "Manta" vehicle from Unreal Tournament 3. It has animation for switching weapon and for shooting, but everything else is controlling with script - wheel rotation, steering, rotating weapon etc. You should look at UT3 script source to understand that.

If you want to animate such mesh in Max, perhaps you must adjust bones from UI directly.

Ahhhh!
Now that explains my "experience".
Shooting and so on is an animation - driving a script.
Thank you!!
