Author Topic: how to use an extracted character into UDK  (Read 4832 times)

I have successfully extracted some files using umodel,ei; Mirror’s edge Celeste character. I Followed the “ME in UDK” youtube tutorial to transfer skeletal, static texture and materials  to my UDK Browser but that’s all I can do with it. I followed the next youtube “Celeste in UDK” and he shows the Celeste character running and jumping in a typical UDK map but when I try to do the same all I get is an immobile Celeste floating in the map.
I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for anyone who can give me a step-by-step howto transfer any character into the UDK map.

Check UDN pages (not third-party tutorials) relative to the creation of custom characters.
Probably you should do one of the:
  • create AnimTree - otherwise you will not be able to link animations to a SkeletalMesh
  • create ini file for player model
  • create script file (sometimes it is required for custom meshes)
(I'm not sure, I've never made custom player models)

Thank you for your answer but it did not answer my question. My question succintly is this: What does one do with the umodel extracted models? and how can one include them into a UDK or UT3 map

Look at the UDK tuts about character animation. Thats a good start. You *MIGHT* have to use 3dsmax (or maya) to get them into actorx and assigned..i'm not sure. Bottom line is it's not just a simple matter of assigning "some" animation to "any" charater.
