I'm hazarding to guess that these don't work for the time being?  Umodel can open them when UE 4.14 is specified, and tells me "Class statistics: 1 SQEXSEADSound" but the command line indicates "The specified package(s) has no supported objects." and indeed it cannot extract anything.

Example:

This is the PC version that's been out for about half a year.

Can you say me what's "SQEXSEAD"?

SQEXSEAD.  Probably Square Enix something something.  All I know is it's the sound files tucked away in a bunch of .uasset / .uexp files.  If it's not wav, mp3, ogg etc. and nothing on the planet can actually play the things, then I suppose that's a dead end.  But for the time being, umodel doesn't seem able to extract whatever it is.

Umodel is performing FULL PARSING of data, for ANY supported format. The type of data is recognized by object's type - SQEXSEADSound in your case. Umodel expects sounds in Sound (UE1,UE2), SoundNodeWave (UE3) or SoundWave (UE4) objects, so when looking at "SQEXSEADSound" it doesn't know what to do with it.

has there been any progression in getting the sound to be exported? or do you need sample files?

@Luminary3: Why though? There are third-party tools for that format, and for a long time already.
I'm not into that, but you can find related info in those places:
https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonquestxi/mods/89/?tab=forum&topic_id=8659453
https://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?t=13312
DQ XI modding discord, mentioned here: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonquestxisdefinitiveedition/mods/22

I understand that probably direct support in umodel would be more convenient, but that format is complicated and it's better to work on things that only umodel can do. Sound support was more like quality of life thing rather than necessity.
