Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition (PC) .xxx AUDIO Extract
« on: July 09, 2013, 19:21 »

Hello ladies and gentlemen! I hope everyone enjoyed MKKE as much as I did. Especially those epic squishy X-RAY sounds Grin

So, as far as I know, MK is using Unreal Engine. The "Asset" folder, which is where I believe it keeps all the goodies, is full of .xxx files. And I tried my best to open and/or extract them, but unfortunately, with no luck. I'm pretty bad at this, so that's why i'm kindly asking for your help Smiley

Here is an archive full of .xxx files samples:

Alright, thank you for your time and help.
Cheers!

MK uses FMOD sound system, so it's not supported by umodel.

Use unreal package extractor on file with FMOD sounds, and then use some ripper for them. No other solution for the moment.

Okay, got it. But there's the BAD news. The file that contains the sound, also contains meshes, textures, animations and other unwanted stuff. It takes A LOT to extract all that. And A LOT to delete and sort what i need from the "garbage". My question is: Is there a way to Extract SOUND only ? The sound archive that contains the FMOD archive has the ".FmodEventFile" extension.

I can't seem to be able to add filters. Or maybe I just do it wrong.
If there IS a way to extract the SOUND only it would save me a lot of time. Oh, and the BatchExport doesn't work. Maybe because it should not, i don't really know, sorry.

in command line of course, or in a .bat file, if you are using umodel, see attach

and your link is dead, give me one file to check it myself

There, you go. Also updated the 1st link. Lol, they banned it because it had a "wrong" name, ".XXX"

For "extract.exe", "nostat", "noanim" etc wouldn't work - these options are for umodel only. There's possibility to filter output of extract.exe - use "-filter=<file type>" option. I think "file type" would be "FmodEvent" (without quotes). You may add multiple -filter options to allow more output for different types.

I think I tried that. But it's either I am a total fool and can't do anything right, OR, it extracts all the files bypassing the filter. Please tell me if I do this right:

And yes, I copied one .xxx file (Baraka) in there on purpose, just to test it on it.

here's the right way
and .bat file to do it easy:
.\extract.exe -out=F:\cookedpc -filter=fmodevent SND_MUS_Fanfares.xxx
pause

of course I made F:\cookedpc folder and put everything inside

but all files come out 1kb, so I think something is wrong with that format

Yes it is. Because the file extension is not FmodEvent. It is FmodEventFile.
By changing the file type in the cmd, but saving the rest, it worked just fine. Thank you very much for your help!  Cheesy

=======
Now I ask myself (and you) if there is a way to automate this process. So I don't have to run cmd -> extract -> type in the filter -> and the package name.

Is there a way to make it Filter and Extract all the .xxx ? A batch file maybe ? Or a script ?
Perhaps I can change the previous bat's function from extracting 1 specified file to -> extract all files with the same extension ?

well I'm not good at command prompt commands, but why do you need extract all at once? It'll be a mess! I strongly recommend to do it file by file, so you can control it better. I always do like that, even if there is a couple of hundreds files
but, maybe this will work: .\extract.exe -out=F:\cookedpc -filter=fmodeventfile *.xxx

put this in a text file and save with .bat extention

That didn't work.

I want it to be automated because I can't spend my whole life repeating the process over and over again. I wish it could just Filter and Extract all the files. One file after another. Just the FmodEventFiles.

Isn't there a simple way to modify the bat file that you created earlier so it affects not just one specific file, let's say Bar.xxx. But also Z.xxx, X.xxx, Y.xxx, N.xxx ... basically every file with the same extension.

^ this is still unanswered.
====

That .bat file that you recommended me. Does it apply only to one file ? (Fanfares in that case)
Do I have to change it every time I want to extract another file ? I hope I'm just being stupid again...
